ok- so this is like one of the first posts I've ever done that's remotely crafty- and there's a good reason for that. I'm about as creative as a calculator.
those things are NOT creative.
Anywho- I had seen a tutorial on how to make your own headbands on a few sites including this one...
so I decided it didn't look too hard and I had an old sweatshirt that I've been dying to re-purpose. (I still feel all hip when I say that word- re-purpose. re-purpose. re-purpose)
So all the fabric came from the hood part of my sweatshirt which was looking shabby and needed to go. PLUS- hoodless sweatshirts are IN!!! Didja hear? I'm, like, pretty excited.
Anyhow- here's what you'll need:
-Old sweatshirt or t-shirt
-scissors
-needle and thread
OK-first step- start out by cutting your fabric (whatever you decide on) into strips. I figure this step is fairly easy so I didn't picture it....just make sure they aren't too short since you'll end up with my problem which is that one of my headbands is like annoyingly tight. I need to chop off my ears to get it down to my neck.
TEST the strips to see if they will go around your head. I would say for the braided version of this you'll want like just under an inch of extra fabric. Otherwise- make it tight!

this is the simple version |
Third step (for braided headband) gather three strips and fasten them together with a safety pin as shown
Fourth Step braid the three pieces. If you don't know how to do that- Well, thanks for making me feel creative-superior to you. It's not a feeling I get often.
CINCO- sew that head band the heck up! Just make sure to sew it really well- it doesn't have to be pretty. Or well, maybe it does. But I seriously can't make my stitches look anything other than some alien language garble. So just do your best, let God take care of the rest. but seriously.
DONE!
