3 things we assume about other people (but totally aren't true)

I've been on a bit of a writing hiatus. I guess I'm just super dried out of ideas right now. Or maybe it's the multiplicity of ideas that's making me have this serious mental blockage. I wish there was some Miralax for my creativity.

I've started about five posts now. I got about 100 or so words in and hated it all so I've decided to go with something and see what happens. and yes. My attitude reeks of disappointment. I wish I didn't sound so begrudging right now...grrrr...

Here we go....3 things we totally assume about the people around us... but (I think) are totally false

1. Others are thinking about us and/or making judgments

So under normal circumstances, I hardly give a passing thought to the general population. Yes, in a very self-conscious, selfish way I do tend to think about what others are thinking about me. But see. That's still mostly thinking about myself.

In terms of passing judgments on other people or wondering what they're eating for breakfast.....nah....most people aren't thinking about you that way.

If you have deeply intimate relationships, however, those thoughts will be thought. The good news (or maybe bad news) about this is that the judgments we make within those relationships will be tempered a bit by what know of that person.

2. Everyone wants to hear the details of your life story

I had to sort of re-work this heading. It originally was going to say something to the effect of "no one wants to hear your life story" but that sounds a wee harsh, yeah? Plus, I actually do love hearing life stories, testimonies, and all around amazing tales. Don't you?

But I think what really is a bore is when people go into great detail explaining their mother's best friend's cousin's butcher's dog. Like, come on....How is this relevant?

If it's relevant include it. If not. Don't.

Oh my. This post is getting away from me quickly. I hate writer's block.

3. Most people aren't as creative as you

Ok, so this is already sounding snarky and rude, so I'll just go for it. You're not as creative as you believe you are. And I say this to myself probably more than anyone. I really WANT to believe that I'm the next Michelangelo but honestly, I'm not. I'm about as special as freezer burn on a 7-11 slushee. And as a writer I have to remember that.
Today my dad and I were watching this show and the host said, "This very unique....blah blah blah."

Seriously?

How can something be VERY unique? It either is unique or it isn't....

I think we get caught up in the idea that we are all special and different. But the truth is, there has to be a true unique and a true commonplace. Most of us fall into the latter category.
