samaria/coastal plain

Our Samaria trip was pretty short since we were in the west bank...ergo...I decided to combine two trips into one. Plus I'm pretty behind on all that's going on around here.

Just for a little background- Samaria is north of Jerusalem. You may remember the story of the Good Samaritan or even the Samaritan woman by the well. Yep. This is all apart of this area. I actually had to borrow Jenna's pictures once again because I forgot my camera on this particular day. But, like I said, it was a short trip with only three stops.

Here are the highlights though!

dancing to get husbands...Judges 19-style
cistern at biblical "Ai"
Well at Shiloh...also marriage related...remember rebekah and the well?
(at Shiloh) to steal jenna's caption too: 'leaping for joy in the place of the tabernacle'thank you kate!
Tel Shechem- a very hostile place
Our view of shechem from mt Gerizim ( we were kicked off minutes later)
and here were our escorts off the mountain. mae is pretty happy to see these cuties :)

Coastal Plain

This was a fantastic day! One of my favorites thus far! Once again, we had three major stops: Aphek/Antipatris, Dor, and Caeserea Philippi. I hope you enjoy the pictures. If you have questions about any of these pictures or places please add a comment or email me!

A little added note. I was feeling both artistic and shy. So a lot of these pictures are candid and edited. :)

Dor. a new favorite. it was an administrative city back in the day.

Mediterranean Sea {Dor}
captain america: always excited to learn

At Caesarea

Basically Caesarea was an amazing port town back in the time of Christ. Herod the Great built this great site so to harbor ships coming over the Mediterranean. It's construction is just like Rome and was therefore often referenced as an offensive and pagan site to the more orthodox jewish community. As you can see, even today it is an amazingly beautiful spot and is still considered a very high-brow neighborhood with lots of little tourist traps and such. Funny how some things never change.
theater at Caearea
A theater like this was where Herod died. eaten by worms
yummy.
