single but not alone

Sometimes the relationship status on my Facebook page tends to glare just a little bit brighter: SINGLE. What a category?! What a silly box we place ourselves in?! One may be the loneliest number that you’ll ever see, but being single and unattached is NOT an intrinsic part of my being or essence.
My friend noticed that there are those who praise being single as if it is better than being with someone. Supposedly there is more freedom to serve God or other people. I say NO. Having someone else in you life can be a truly freeing thing and, when it is right, can produce great godliness.
Views are also vice-versa as if I am somehow missing out on a better thing due to the fact that I am not in a dating relationship or married. But both views are wrong…
This blessed place of life the Lord has allowed me to enjoy can only serve one purpose: to glorify and honor my Holy Creator. It seems cliché to say, but I need to make the focus of my life Christ- and then everything comes second.
Why does finding your significant other (or not finding your significant other Winking smile) become the crux of our lives? Does this not dethrone God? Doesn’t this place God as second to our desires or wants?
Additionally, no man (or woman) can ever perfectly live up to a standard, especially those required for a perfect marriage. God must be the one who satisfies. In Him we find peace, joy, contentment, but most of all, eternal salvation. (1 Cor 1:9)
