resolved at college

One of the assignments for one of my Bible courses was to write about Jonathan Edwards' Resolutions and make 6 of my own, three for the semester and three for my college years. If you have not read through Edwards' Resolutions- I would strongly suggest that you do...There are 70 so I would encourage you to set aside some time, if you do not have some now, to read through them.

Here are my Resolutions:

Three Resolutions for the Semester:

  • Resolved, to show more love, more compassion, and more mercy towards my dorm/wing mates and everyone on campus or at church. I want to love Sarah, Abi, Carolyn, Alex, Kaylynn and my dear RA , Julianne, with sisterly affection.I want to show seemly love and care for my dear brothers. I would love to get to know everyone on campus by semester’s end and be involved to some extent with at least 100 people on campus. I will get more involved in their lives and show genuine concern for their physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health.

  • Resolved, to be diligent with my time so that I don’t waste a single minute that God has graciously given me. I want to be orderly with my time and space. I want to balance homework time and socialization, which are both important.

  • Resolved, to make good habits now, instead of later. With everything, it is so important that I establish what type of student/person I am going to be. With God’s help, I want to be the very best that I can be.

Three Resolutions for my time at TMC:

  • Resolved, to know God more personally and try to understand the goodness of His character as it relates to my life. I am desirous of a relationship with my Creator where I understand the depths of my depravity in relation to His holiness. I hope someday I can say, without false humility, that I am the chief of all sinners, as did my dear brother Paul. I hope that as I grow in Christ I will not encourage personal praise but adoration of God!!!

  • Resolved, to find godly, life long friends that pursue me for Christ. These will NOT be people that I just happen to run into at the Caf and say “Hi” to. These will be people that I will be open with. These will be people who I proactively get to know and in return get to know me. I want to establish accountability with these people and show overwhelming concern for their spiritual well-being.

  • Resolved, to live in such a way that I do not look back on my college experience with regrets. I hope to take advantage of every opportunity afforded me here. These opportunities include, but are not limited to: dorm/wing events, student life events, social opportunities, ministry opportunities, Servant leadership, and, most importantly, opportunities to learn.
