So thankful for Heck...

Ok...so you may be thinking this post is going to be a subliminal talk about H-E- double hockey sticks...but it's not. I mean, I am grateful that God judges sinners so that He may bring Himself more glory but that is so off the point I'm just going to stop, now.

What I'm really taking about is Susan Heck and her book "With the Master in the School of Tested Faith." Some wise woman/en decided to use her book for our next study in Ladies Bible Study (or as the cool people call it, "LBS"). I'm so thankful for her no nonsense, nitty gritty, roll-your-sleeves-up, concise, exposition on the book of James.

After taking a gander in the Women's section at our local Christian book store, I was disappointed in the amount of fluff that is served to women these days. It's pathetic. I couldn't find even one book that had the word "doctrine" or "Theology" or "Hermeneutics" in the description. Ok, so the last word may not be so popular. But the idea that I get from perusing the Ladies/ wimpy section is that I, as a woman, am not smart or strong enough to be taught deep spiritual truths.

I suppose we should rewrite Matthew 22:37 to read "...You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your feelings."

Indeed, as women, nay, as believers, we are all obligated to train our minds diligently. God did not gives us His word so that we might tell tear-jerking stories about Charlene's pet snake that spoke to her in a dream about God's love. NO!!!

What does the man in Psalm 1 do? He meditates on God's word 24/7. He chews it over and over again in his mind. It's not simply baby food with DHA in it. It's choice meat loaded with all the nutrition needed for growth and development.

I'll take a moment to step off my soap box and say that many of the people serving this fluff (not marshmellow-y goodness) are doing so out of a lack of spiritual development within their own lives, not because they are trying to harm women. It's sad, but true. I need to remember that God has placed me under extraordinary preaching and teaching.

Within my own life, I hope I will diligently study God's Word (with the aid of Mrs. Heck and other solids), so that I may be like a tree, firmly planted by streams of water, which yields fruit in its season. (those are not my words from "a tree" on...)

Thank Mrs. Heck. http://www.withthemaster.org/ You are not extra ordinary, but extraordinary. And thank you biblegateway.com. I love the copy and paste feature.
